It’s been long in the planning, but the stars have aligned and we’ll be drinking whisky on a train.

Our host for the evening will be Rocky Lancer. Whisky Squad veteran, Whisky Exchange writer and heritage railway volunteer, he will be talking whisky, trains and more.

It’ll be a great evening at the Epping and Ongar railway, with six whiskies to taste and a high likelihood of rail-related puns.

The schedule:

6pm – departure from Epping Central Line station. Travel via heritage bus to North Weald station. DO NOT BE LATE.

6.30pm – arrival at North Weald. Time to wander around, find a seat on the train and grab a drink from the on-board pub, The Flag and Whistle.

7pm – train leaves for Ongar.

7pm-9.20pm – train does a few trips to and from Ongar. We drink whisky.

9.30pm – bus leaves for Epping

The Details

We will be serving some nibbly food during the evening, so please let us know if you have any specific dietary requirements. It won’t be a full dinner service, so make sure you grab a big lunch or an early dinner.

The timetable is fixed – the bus cannot wait for anyone. If you miss the bus from Epping, then you will need to get a cab to North Weald. If you miss the train, then you’ll need to wait for it to come back to North Weald, or try and catch it at Ongar. Mobile phone reception is flaky, but we’ll send out a phone number to contact in case of issues.

We’re not sure what locomotive will be running as yet – it might be a steam train, it might be diesel. It all depends on what’s up and running on the day. Old trains are temperamental beasts…

Price will be approximately £30 per person, including travel to North Weald from Epping station and back, a ticket for the train to Ongar, nibbles and whisky. Price will be confirmed before tickets go on sale.

This event is fully booked.
