Whisky Squad #65 – Honey? Vanilla? We’re not making a cake, you know.

Thursday Jul 11, 2013: 19:30 until 21:30

Scotch Malt Whisky Society – London clubrooms
19 Greville Street
London EC1N 8SQ

(3 places remaining)

When we’re discussing smells & flavours of the whiskies we try at Whisky Squad, it’s almost inevitable that the words “honey” and “vanilla” come up. This is absolutely fine – vanilla’s a frequent note, given the tendency of the ex-bourbon cask to impart vanilla notes on a spirit. But we thought, “Might it be possible to get a whole tasting where NONE of the whiskies have vanilla or honey notes?”. Quite the challenge, when you think about it.

Luckily, we’re friends with the crew over at the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. And if anyone can meet this brief, it’s them.

Whisky Squad regular & SMWS Ambassador John McCheyne will take us through a selection of their single cask whiskies: this will be an excellent opportunity, not only as a chance to introduce whisky newcomers to the world of single cask, but also for more “practiced” members to revel in the huge palette of possibility that individual cask selection can bring.
